I have just released three new recordings. The first is titled "Beacon-First Light" which is a collaboration with composer-vocalist Paul Seal. The music is inspired by many diverse sources including Pop, Jazz, Rock, Country, Reggae and Classical music. The second titled "Guitar Dreams" is a sequel to the 2006 release "Solo Music For Acoustic Guitar" featuring unaccompanied nylon string acoustic guitar in short form compositions with improvisation. The third recording "Popular Guitar Classics" was originally released in 1992 in cassette format. The recording includes many of the most popular selections from the Classical Guitar repertoire. All of these selections may be sampled and purchased from the "Music Store" located on the bottom of the homepage on this site. Thank you for your support!

CATHEDRAL SIGNS WITH MUSEA
Musea, the French progressive label (Anglagaard, Glass, Ange) has taken Cathedral aboard. After an informal meeting in Metz in October and some negotiations Musea will be distributing Cathedral's latest album, "The Bridge". The band is focusing all their energies on new material and upcoming performances. It's basically a partnering of two entities that love the past, present and future of progressive music and plan to do something about it. Something good is going to happen!
Another excellent review of "The Bridge" recording released by Cathedral in September 2007. This review is from www.progplanet.com
Cathedral…US progband with 2 albums to their name, would you beleive, with 29 years apart?! NO ?! I didnt think so, neither did I !! But the fact is, they released a new
(and second) album in 2007 and what a brilliant album it is!! Now I havent had the pleasure of hearing their first and rare album, which is (supposedly) a classic early prog album! However I can comment, on this new outing!!
And in my honest opinion, it is quite a superb album, with plenty of mellotron, tight themes with drums and solid bass
lines and sometimes powerful highflying guitar soli!!
But also the vocals are splendid, as are the lyrics!
Especially the “Monsterhead” suite are excellent both lyric and music wise!! It has a creeping growing theme that you ( the listener) cant seem to get rid off and believe you me, you dont want to, once you get caught in that fine maelstrom of that superb track! But its not all highflying powering prog, there are intervals of acoustic beauty such as track # 4: “Kithara Interludium” ...oooh, beware Steve Howe!!
“Angular World” has just enough counterpoint and complex arrangements to intrigue you, a brilliant track, with some excellent guitars!!
“The Lake” opening like a jungle soundtrack (sound effects) building up a fine soothing theme, with the superb vocals of Paul Seal on top!!
“The Secret” an epic track (11:59 min.) again with the warm and excellent voice of Paul Seal, weaving in and out of the superb music created by fabulous guitarplayers: David Doig & Brian Moore, keyboardplayer: Thomas Doncourt and aforementioned: Bass and drum masters: Callan & Caronia, in all adding up to the excellent feature this album turned out to be !!
An amazing second album!
It is quite an amazement to me, how on earth these guys can reunite, after that many years and still create this monster of an album!!?
I havent heard their first album, I would have loved to hear it just for the sake of comparability, but who cares, as this
by all counts are masterclass progmusic..from a masterclass band!!
So, I recommend this fine fare to anyone into great progressive music !!

Talk about taking a long time to record a second album! After a 31 year break Cathedral return for the follow up to Stained Glass Stories. All of the original members are back with the exception of Rudy Perrone who is replaced by virtuoso guitarist David Doig. When you hear about these reformations your expections are automatically set pretty low since very few of them are successful. Cathedral actually pull it off!
The band took the core Cathedral sound (Mellotron is everywhere on this disc) and modernized it a bit - primarily due to current technology. It doesn't sound like it was recorded in 1976 - it has a rather crystalline clear sound. The album kicks off with the 13 minute three part "The Monsterhead Suite" which basically sounds like...Cathedral. In other words a taste of King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Genesis and Yes. The rest of the album follows suit. As you relisten to it you really pick up on a lot of the nuances that made Stain Glass Stories such a classic - but again I have to emphasize that this isn't a retro sound. For me the only downer is drummer Mercury Caronia's decision to use an electronic kit - a standard one would have been much more effective. Here's hoping we don't have to wait another 31 years for album number three - I might not be around!
Many of you have sent me emails like "I tried to download your songs from itunes but I couldn't find them". The wait is over! Click on the buy link of this site to go to either CD Baby to buy the CD or itunes to download it. THANKS!
I will be performing original compositions for acoustic guitar on Friday October 5th from 7:00-9:00pm at Colorful Visions Art Glass Studio Inc., 813 B Montauk Hwy., Bayport NY.

The group is currently recording at Ian London Studio. The new recording should be available by mid spring 2007.

On January 30, 2006 I released a new CD Titled Solo Music for Acoustic Guitar. It features 11 original compositions for nylon string guitar. The music spans a wide variety of styles. The concept for this CD was to compose a tune followed by improvisation on the tune. The CD is available through hostbaby: http://cdbaby.com/cd/daviddoig
Click on the Music section of this site to sample tunes from the CD. Hope you like it!
ALBUM NOTES
This CD was a pleasure to create. It is truly wonderful to be an independent artist who composes, performs and produces original works. Many of the tunes on this recording had been “kicking around in my head” for many years. I first performed “Children’s Song”, “Cinderella”, “Island Blues” and “Passion Dance” at a benefit concert for Native Americans at Riverside Church in NY City about six years ago. “Circus” was composed in about 10 minutes. The composition borrows some of the compositional techniques of one of my favorite composers, J.S. Bach. The two part writing lends itself particularly well to finger style guitar. “The Jig is up” has a definite Celtic flavor. It was composed about a year ago when I was planning a concert tour of the Emerald Isle, England and Scotland. “Jimi” is a tribute to my all time favorite solid body electric guitarist Jimi Hendrix. “Melancholy” is all about the struggle most musicians face between beauty and poverty! “Spanish Phrases” is an improvisation which encompasses many of the rhythmic, harmonic and form related compositional devices traditional “Spanish” composers employ in their compositions. “Ballad” defines what it means to mature as a musician, i.e., you are no longer afraid to leave space between your musical ideas. “Waterfall” is the oldest composition on this CD. The work originally was intended for an ensemble. The concept originated from a trip to Smokey Mountain National Park in 1995.
If you are a guitarist interested in developing fingerstyle ability, I can send you guitar tablature and/or traditional notation of the tunes presented on this CD. I am currently working on a guitar method which will offer instruction on how to become proficent in a solo guitar style which incorporates elements of improvisation as well as traditional concepts.
